Method used to prepare the merit list was not put up on the website
Parents and students of Gujarat Technological University
(GTU) demanded clarifications in the method used to prepare the merit list for admissions
into diploma-to-degree engineering course. The list, put up by admission committee
of professional courses (ACPC) on August 4, took into account the theory marks scored
by students in the last two semesters.
However, GTU’s grading system includes marks of the practical subjects too. But
since the merit list included only theory marks, the parents and students questioned
it. Dhruvi Tripathi, a student, said, "A lot of effort goes into the projects we
work on. It is important to take that into account while judging our theoretical
ability. Also, the method used to prepare the list was not put up on the website
as was promised to us earlier."
Jay Suthar, another student, said, "Our demand is that Cumulative Performance Index
(CPI) be considered for the merit list. We are not told how much we have scored
in the theory which was for 70 marks. Even in the mark sheets, it was written that
CPI will be calculated for merit." Member Secretary of ACPC M. N. Patel said, "Semester
theory performance index, provided by GTU, has been taken into account for the merit
list."
