The first batch for DJDM will be inducted in to the program in July 2011
Garware Institute of Career Education & Development University
of Mumbai launch a Diploma in Jewellery Designing and Management (DJDM)
in collaboration with Indian Institute of Jewellery.
After the success of India's first Post-Graduate Diploma in Jewellery Management,
IIJ, India's premier jewellery Institute collaborates, once more, with University
of Mumbai's Garware Institute of Career development, to launch a Diploma in Jewellery
Designing and Management (DJDM). This course will be available to anyone, post twelfth
standard, wishing to pursue a career in the gems and jewellery management. The first
batch will be inducted in to the program in July 2011.
Spread over 18 months, the DJDM program is divided between the Garware Institute
and IIJ. It will be offered as a part time option, which gives students the flexibility
to pursue education along with existing jobs, as well to exercise the option of
continuing with graduation simultaneously. They also have the choice of either manufacturing
or design for their final project.
DJDM Program covers the entire gamut of designing, manufacturing and gemology. The
curriculum will give students an overall exposure to all aspects of the industry.
This 18 month program caters to a newly-emerged need of today’s jewellery industry.
Given both, the global and local competition in this market, it is essential that
individuals have comprehensive knowledge not solely of jewellery related matters
but also managerial skills. Each topic taught in the course is correlated to management
and marketing.
Mr. Vijay Kumar Jatia, Chairman, IIJ comments on this development, "IIJ is proud
of our association with University of Mumbai's Garware Institute of Career Development
and we are happy that we have continued that association. It is important that students,
after the HSC or its equivalent, be given the option of pursuing a career specific
program in jewellery and management - an opportunity that did not exist before."
The Post Graduate Diploma in Jewellery Management, spread over one year, also combines
the technical and managerial aspects of jewellery manufacture and design. This course,
however, is only available to graduate students. Candidates from both these program
i.e. PGDJM & DJDM can be absorbed at any level, as they have been exposed to all
segments of the jewellery industry, be it manufacturing, designing or gemology.
