College Students demand change in class timings
Ahmedabad : Students of
Shankarsinh Vaghela Bapu Institute of Technology at Vasaniya in Ahmedabad
staged a noisy demonstration protesting against the authorities on Wednesday. The
students have been on strike since three days demanding that the class timings be
changed to make it an early morning college.
At present, the college timings are from 9 am to 4 pm. The students are demanding
that the college should start at 7 am or 7.30 am so that it leaves them with enough
time to study during the day. The students said that when they leave college at
4 pm, there is hardly any time left to prepare the projects or study.
On Wednesday, members of National Students Union of India
(NSUI) too reportedly went to the campus to talk to the students. The
students are also reported to have gone on a rampage in the institution causing
damage to furniture, including the black boards. They also pelted stones on the
car of one of the trustees of the college.
In addition, the students also demanded that the director of the institute be removed.
Sources said that the director has invited ire of students as the teachers and principal
had reportedly agreed to change in the timings but the director refused to budge.
Principal of the college Ravi Kumar, however, said that there was no incident of
students staging a protest. I am not aware of any such protest or demand, he said.
