Rohan Prinja, City Topper in AIEEE, 5th in State
Pune : Rohan Prinja has secured the top rank among the students
who appeared for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) from the
city. Rohan, with 319 marks out of 350, has secured 51st rank at the
National level and fifth rank at the State level in the Exam conducted on May 1.
Prinja, a student of the Kothrud-based P Jog Junior College, also secured 53rd rank
in the Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE).
Speaking to TOI, Prinja said, "My focus was on personal study which was supported
by coaching class. I am interested in either Computer Science or Electrical discipline.
I'm keen on pursuing further education and may go for Doctorate as well." Ashish
Bora, a student of Modern College, Shivajinagar, secured 58th rank in the examination.
He said, "I want to start my own business after the completion of the professional
course. I am not very keen on pursuing any job, where I will have to work in a company.
My parents are from Sangamner in Ahmednagar district, who want me to be an Engineer.
I received training from IIT Prashikshan Kendra."
Ashish’s parents are Pediatrics and have their own practice in Sangamner. Around
40,000 students appeared for the examination from the Pune centre, which was higher
by 5,000 compared to previous year's number. With more students testing their skills
through AIEEE,
the number of centers for students was increased to 73 this year, said Jayshree
Venkatraman, city Coordinator for conducting the exam.
The AIEEE is rated as the biggest Entrance examination as 10, 53,832 students across
the country appeared for the examination.
Unlike other Entrance exams, AIEEE offers ranks to every student appearing for the
examination. Those who secure more than 30 per cent of the 350 marks in the examination,
have chance to get admission to 21 National Institute of Technology located in various
cities or 50 Autonomous Colleges identified by the Union Government. These students
can also get admission to some State level Engineering Colleges which have 15 per
cent quota for AIEEE. The students will pursue courses like Bachelor of Technology,
Architect and Planning, among others.
