IIT Common Entrance Examination for Design:
CEED, i-e Common Entrance Examination for Design
is an all India entrance test conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai
(IIT, Mumbai), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD),
Government of India. The Common Entrance Exam of Design (CEED)
(CEED 2012 entrance exam) is a joint entrance
exam for the post graduate programs at Indian Institutes of Technology.
IIT-CEED entrance examination is a qualifying
examination for postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various branches of design
like Master of Design (M.Des.) and Ph.D. Programmes in Design offered by IISc Bangalore,
IIT Mumbai, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur,
IDDC,
CPMD and other participating institutes.
It is a descriptive test covering students’ logical, creative, observation and drawing
skills. The objective of CEED 2012 entrance exam is to assess the candidate’s aptitude
for design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning,
creativity, and communication skills. Candidates can also go for Master’s degree
in accessory designing, Ug, Pg and PG diploma courses in footwear science & engineering.
IIT CEED common entrance test for Design is amongst the toughest exams in India.
After qualifying in the written test the candidate has to apply separately to each
of the institutes for admission. Candidates also have to fulfill other requirements
such as tests and interviews of the respective institutions for admission. The IITs and IISc
are among the premier institutes of higher education in India with the best facilities
and infrastructure providing excellent campus facilities to and disciplined education
to the students.

CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following,
by July 2012:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent.
- Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after
10+2).
- B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2).
- G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience.
- Master’s degree in Arts/ Science/ Computer Applications.
The candidates will be responsible for showing eligibility while seeking admission
to the specific programme in which they are interested. There is no age limit and
a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.
How to Apply?
CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design:
- A.SBI
Cash Voucher (through any SBI Branch): In this case, after filling the Application
Form a SBI Cash Voucher will generate along with the Application Printout. It will
contain your name and other details. You have to take this to any SBI Branch within
India and make the payment. You have to enclose the IITB copy of the SBI Cash Voucher
along with the Application Printout.
- B.Demand
Draft: In this case, a Demand Draft of the appropriate amount in favour of
'IIT Bombay', payable at Mumbai should be obtained prior to filling of the Application
Form. Enter the Demand Draft details while filling the Application Form. The Draft
should have the validity of 6 months.

Exam Pattern
The duration of the CEED 2012 Entrance exam is three hours and the exam consists
of two parts.
Design Aptitude:
Common Entrance Examination for Design requires
development of new product/visual concepts and creative ideas based on analytical
observation of problems from daily life situations. Choice of product concepts suitable
for small and large scale production. Generation of solution in a given material
and process such as sheet metal work, wood fabrication, plastic moulding, wire fabrication,
etc. or representations of visual concepts into visual symbols and form, aided with
drawings and illustrations.
Drawing Skills:
Imagination of objects, people and places from our immediate or distant environments.
