Maharashtra government has finally agreed to allow CBSE students who appeared for
school evaluated examination into state-board schools and junior college courses
Ending two months of acrimony, Maharashtra government has
finally agreed to allow CBSE students who appeared for school evaluated examination
into state-board schools and junior colleges. However, the permission is for the
current year only.
State education board chairperson Ujjwala Patil said, "Since CBSE had requested
us, we decided to accept their students for the current academic session keeping
the students' future in mind. Also the number of such students is not much, hence
it should not be a problem. The order has been issued to every education officer
in the state."
This comes as a huge relief to parents in Nagpur who had approached the courts to
find solution to the deadlock. In June, the state had said that school-evaluated
students will be admitted to its junior colleges only if they cleared an external
exam conducted by the CBSE. This move was followed by the CISCE (which conducts
the ICSE and ISC exam) also refusing to admit the school-evaluated CBSE students.
On July 1, the CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi, however, managed to strike a deal with
CISCE.
Manjot Singh, spokesperson for the Aggrieved Parents Forum (APF), said, "We are
thankful to CM and education minister Rajendra Darda for solving our problem. This
would not have been possible without the help of Nitin Raut and management of Centre
Point School who supported us. We have now instructed our lawyers to withdraw the
petition in the high court. All the parents are relieved that this issue has been
resolved. Our children can now concentrate on their studies. The children have shown
great mental strength and patience throughout."
For Nagpur, the admission process will start next week. Mahesh Karajgaonkar, deputy
director (education), said, "the education minister has asked us to proceed with
admissions of CBSE students without any conditions. The centralized admission process
in Nagpur is more or less over. Now CBSE students will be considered for the leftover
seats. I am waiting for a written order from government after which we will officially
inform all colleges by Monday. The admissions can start after that."
Patil said, "ICSE board had also earlier refused to admit the school-evaluated students
but agreed to do so just for this session. Our government too has decided to follow
suit as we don't want these students to suffer. We have made it very clear that
this exemption is only for this year."
