The perception regarding to CAT is that CAT is meant for Engineers. A non engineer can have difficulties as there is a lot of Math in CAT. Most of the students give up CAT as they can’t find how to break the CAT Quantitative Aptitude Section. They learn formulae by rote and try to use them in different sums in the practice tests only to realize that their scores are not improving.
The whole concept of learning formulae by heart for CAT is imperfect. CAT does not check how good you are at remembering formulae and for most of the sums in CAT you cannot apply formulae directly. Rather, CAT checks how logically you can think through sums. Your smartness in solving the sums is counted here in CAT.
From previous CAT papers it is found that, CAT Quantitative Aptitude Section can be solved with simple logic. Understand this - that CAT does not check on your mathematical skill or power to remembering the big big formulae but on your reasoning skills.

Tips to improve Math in the last month:

• Try to keep yourself away from big and lengthy formulae. The less formulae you know the better it is to implement.
• But obviously you need to know basic formulae of Mathematics, Statistics, Trigonometry and Geometry. But don’t get into any new formulae you have not heard of. It will only slow you down or make you feel confusing.
• Try solving the problems with new time saving ideas that you already have solved. If you find it write it down next to the sum so that when you go through the paper again you could remember the methods you used. Also once before the exam go and check the shortcut methods you used to solve the sums. This would ensure that it is fresh in your mind when you solve the paper.
• Always analyse yourself with each mock test you are giving.
• Try to get better ways of solving it than that provided by explanatory answers.
• Go through the 5 previous CAT papers and see if you could get methods to solve the questions there.

Remember this CAT does not repeat questions, but the methods used to solve CAT sums can be repetitive.
