CAT 2011 notches up two-thirds of registration capacity

CAT 2011 – Register Quickly

Candidates waiting to appear for Common Admission Test this year, but who haven’t registered yet, should do so quickly because this year Prometric, IIMs’ partner in developing and delivering CAT 2011, claims to have already filled two-thirds of the total capacity. With several number of registrations left this year, students will not be able to get their preferred date and centre to take the exam if they don’t register quickly.

Prometric did not disclose the number of registrations so far. Soumitra Roy, managing director, Prometric India, said, "To offer convenience to as many candidates as possible, Prometric has built in the flexibility of adding seats wherever necessary during the registration window. Within the first three weeks of registration, we have added seats in eight locations as they were filling up fast. Till date, including the seats allocated for contingency purpose, we have already filled two-thirds of the total capacity. We will continue to monitor and adjust the capacity but this will become difficult as we approach the end of the registration window. I would urge candidates to register as early as possible to avoid last-minute rush or disappointment of not getting their preferred dates or centre."

"Prometric has planned enough capacity to cater for an increase in the number of registrations over CAT 2010. However, it is too early to comment on the expected number of registrations for this year," he added.
In 2010, around 2.04 lakh candidates registered to appear for CAT. "We are not in a position to comment on whether the registration window will be shortened. However, should there be any changes that impact the candidates, we will make a public announcement," said Roy. The registrations began on August 17 and will go on till September 26. Each voucher costs Rs. 1,600. A candidate belonging to the scheduled caste or tribe categories can get the voucher for Rs. 800.
