335 Cadets Graduate from NDA

A total of 335 cadets, including three from Maldives and one cadet from Bhutan, were awarded graduation degrees at National Defence Academy (NDA) on Monday. Of the 335 cadets, 107 were awarded BA degrees, 123 were awarded B.Sc computer science and 105 were given B.Sc degrees. Four trophies and three medals were presented to the cadets who have excelled in the three streams of the graduation programme.

Chief Guest and NDA alumnus Lt Gen A. K. Singh, GOC-In-C, Southern Command said, that a cadet of NDA is a source of pride and inspiration to the nation. NDA graduates are inheritors of a great legacy and tradition and they should strive to live up to its values. The nation looks up to the men in uniform for trust and leadership and they should set the example and take the lead so that the others will follow, Singh said.

The commandant's silver medal for standing first in the science stream was awarded to Divisional Cadet Captain (DCC) Kishor Kunal. Kunal also won the chief of army staff trophy. The commandant's silver medal for standing first in computer science stream was presented to Academy Cadet Adjutant (ACA) N. J. Prabhune, who also received the admiral's trophy and chief of naval staff trophy for standing first in order merit in academics.

The commandant's silver medal for standing first in social science stream was won by cadet A Raj, who also won the chief of air staff trophy.
Lt Gen Jatinder Singh, Commandant, NDA, administered the oath of graduation to the cadets, part of to the 120th course of the academy.
Air vice marshal A. S. Bhonsle, deputy commandant, NDA, delivered the vote of thanks.

All in the family:

With ACA Nikhil Prabhune successfully completing the naval training at NDA, city's Prabhune family has achieved the distinction of serving in Army, Navy and Air Force.
Nikhil's father has served in the Air Force, while his father's uncle has served in the Army.
Nikhil went to the Air Force School in Vimannagar and then to the Rashtria India Military College in Dehradun.
He said, "I dreamt to become a naval aviator and I am working towards that, I feel very proud." I always wanted to be an officer in the armed forces, but I could not. My son has made my dream come true, said J. K. Prabhune, a retired sergeant from Air Force. Nikhil's family, which also has his mother Anuja Prabhune and his younger brother Rohan, hails from a small village near Jejuri in Pune.
