This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. History

Physiotherapy is as old a medicine itself, dating back to Ancient Greece in the era of Hippocrates. Since then, physiotherapy has evolved from simple massage to a complex portfolio of therapies with many specialized applications.

In Ancient Greece circa 460 BC, Hector practiced a physiotherapy technique called "hydrotherapy" - which is Greek for water treatment. Physiotherapists today still employ hydrotherapy, now evolved and adapted specifically to various patient conditions.

In 1894, the UK recognized physiotherapy as a specialized branch of nursing regulated by a Chartered Society. In the succeeding two decades, formal physiotherapy programs were established in other countries including New Zealand (1913) and the USA (1914).

The remuneration for established private practitioners can be almost Rs. 20,000 to 40,000 per month. After a few years of experience, physiotherapists establish their own practice. They can earn Rs. 250 to Rs. 400 per patient. Although the work of a physiotherapist may tend to be physically very strenuous as it involves physically lifting and supporting patients, their profession brings with it much satisfaction, since it involves relieving patients of pain and helping them recover from specific physical ailments.

Duration of the physiotherapy course is 1 year.

Syllabus:

The course contents include anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, psychology, medical and surgical conditions, biomechanics, kinesiology, disability prevention, rehabilitation and other subjects.

General Eligibility:

Common Entrance Test (CET) and All India Medical Entrance Examination (AIMEE) are the entrance exams you need to appear for if you want admission for BPT Course. Candidate should be 12th pass with PCB with 50% passing marks.

A.J. Institute of medical sciences offers 4 year course in Bachelors of Physiotherapy. He should be 10+2 pass (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with 45% marks.
