12 cases of admissions made on the basis of fake sports certificates.
The Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has finally
completed its inquiry into the sports quota admission scam after a month. The two-member
inquiry committee has found 12 cases of admissions under sports quota on the basis
of bogus certificates.
After the admission scam was exposed by media in June, the university took 15 days
to decide to launch an investigation into it. The committee of principal of C P
Degree College of Physical Education, Rajpipla, C B Kagathra and chairman of board
of sports of VNSGU Vinod Patel has found 12 cases of admissions made on the basis
of fake sports certificates.
The 12 students concerned who had taken admissions in the university affiliated
D R Bhana College were allowed to leave the institution without being punished.
Besides, the admission committee has not been made accountable either.
The three-member admission committee, which gave admissions to these students in
under-graduate courses comprised VNSGU syndicate member Kiritsinh Vasadia, director,
physical education, VNSGU, Paul David and faculty at VNSGU Ashok Shah.
The students who had taken admissions on the basis of fake sports certificates have
left the college. We have not decided on any action against the admission committee
members, registrar, VNSGU, J R Mehta said.
Students had submitted fake women cricket tournament certificates of Surat
District Cricket Association (SDCA) to seek admissions under sports quota. Subsequently,
two SDCA office-bearers Hanif Patel and Dipesh Thakkar resigned from their posts
in the association owning moral responsibility in the issue. SDCA has not carried
out any investigation into the issue despite claims that its letter pads were stolen.
SDCA secretary Dinkar Naik was not available for comment.
