The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the deadline for sending applications for the scholarship instituted for bright students from poor families who live in municipal limits. An extension of a fortnight has been given.
As per the old deadline students were to apply for the scholarships on or before August 30, but now they can apply for the scholarship till September 15.
The civic body has decided to award scholarships to poor students who have scored above 80% in standard X and XII board exams to help them for further studies.
The eligibility criteria to avail of the scholarships are that the students should either be from a civic school, night school or suffer from 40% disability. If the student belongs to a reserved category, then he/she will be able to apply for the scholarship even if he or she has scored 70% marks in the board exams.
The students will have to fill in the forms available for free at the main office, Nagar Vasti scheme, PMC main building between 11.00 am and 4.00 pm.
The scholarships instituted in the name of Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (for SSC) and Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe (HSC) offer Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 25,000, respectively.
Pune city, which has been divided in two segments i.e. west and east, had total 359 secondary schools. Pune city accounted for 42,222 students who appeared for the exams out of whom 36,543 cleared the exam taking the pass percentage to 86.54 for the city. More than 1.59 lakh students have cleared the HSC March 2012 examination from the Pune division with the pas percentage of 75.38.
