Considering the rush for a seat in the top Mumbai colleges in the city during junior college admissions, it came as a surprise when Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College got the highest cut-off in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in 2012.
The first online merit list was announced on 27th June this year and the highest cut-off, which stood at a staggering 95.63%, was recorded at this college this year. "We have very few seats left for online admission after filling up the seats under the in-house and minority quotas. That may be one of the reasons for this high cut-off," said Kulwinder Kaul Malhi, junior college co-ordinator of Fr. Agnel.
The second-highest cut-off was recorded at Motilal Hargovindas School and Junior College in Thane with 95.6%. Sathaye College was in the third place with a cut-off of 94%. Other top colleges including HR, KC, Jai-Hind, St Xavier's, NM and Mithibai Colleges stood between 88-92%. On the other hand, there were several colleges with no cut-offs in the first list this year where no student was allotted a seat. "No student would have opted for these colleges, hence they remained vacant in the first round," said deputy director of education (school), S.R. Chouhan. The second online merit list will be announced on 4th July at 5.00 pm in the evening.
