The entrance examination of Chennai-based SRM university was cancelled following a question paper leak in the city on Sunday, 6th May, 2012. While the universitys B.Tech entrance exam was scheduled for 10 am on Sunday, 6th May, 2012, a city-based techie, Praneeth (25), was arrested for trying to sell copies of the question paper along with the answer key to students on May 5.
Praneeth is an employee of Jubilee Hills-based Indo-soft International, police said. The issue came to light when a local news channel caught Praneeth on-camera while he was trying to sell the question paper and answer key for a rate of 50,000 to 60,000. The TV crew handed him over to the police on Saturday, 5th May, 2012 night. A case was booked against him for cheating. About 30,000 students from the state had applied for the entrance exam. Madhapur police officers said the question paper was being traded online to students based in other states. The university registrar, N Sethuraman announced the cancellation of the exam around 2.00 pm following protests by parents at various centres in the city. According to the police, Praneeth got a copy of the question paper from a friend, G. V. Reddy, a resident of Vijayawada.
