When the ComedK test was held on May 6, a whopping 55,000 non-Kannadigas appeared for it. But when the toppers were announced on Thursday, 7th June 2012, 19 of the 20 toppers (10 each from engineering and medical) were from the state. Interestingly, the pass percentage is 100%, which means that all the students who appeared for the engineering stream are eligible for a seat. The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges, Karnataka, holds the key to 40% medical, 45% dental and 30% of the total engineering seats in private professional institutions in Karnataka.
Haren Saga, engineering rank 3, who is from Andhra Pradesh, is the only new face. However, he too has a Bangalore connection, as his parents work here. The other toppers have been hitting the headlines in the past few days by scoring in the other competitive exams as well. As with CET, the number of students who cleared the exam was higher than in the last year. With 28% (9,135 students) passing in the medical stream, the number of eligible students went up by 2,530 as compared to 2011.
Engineering was taken by 44,185 students, an increase of 3,000. It’s just not the top 10 ranks that Karnataka has ruled. In the top 50, as many as 38 medical and 42 engineering students are from Karnataka. Only 34 medical and 17 engineering ranks came from outside the state in the top 100. Of all the successful candidates put together, Karnataka has 36% in medical and 37% in engineering. There is a marginal increase of around 1,000 students in both streams.
ComedK has promised a more student friendly seat-selection process this year. This will include opportunities for late candidates to choose seats at the end of the day, taking away the submission of counterfoils and accepting only nationalized bank cheques. The documents necessary for counselling will be available on the ComedK website along with the results. This year, 77,750 candidates appeared for the examination an increase of around 10,000, as compared to the previous year.
Rank List out at 11am
The rank list will be available on the ComedK website (www.comedk.org) on Friday, 8th June, 2012 from 11am onwards. A more student-friendly counselling, seat-selection process documents and cut-off ranks with respect to medical, dental and engineering streams are available. Rank cards will reach the successful candidates by June 28. Counselling is likely to commence in the second week of July.
Only the names of toppers were announced on Thursday, 7th June, 2012. The rank list will be out only on Friday, 8th June, 2012.
