For the second year, CBSE students studying in Class X had the option to give board examinations a miss and sit for internal tests conducted by schools. They were evaluated internally as well. We, however, have restricted schools from revealing the marks that were internally awarded. Instead, it was compulsory for schools to send the marks to CBSE for sample testing. The results of both board-conducted examinations and school conducted tests have been published on Thursday, 24th May, 2012 for schools in the Bhubaneshwar region, said CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi. He went on to add, even in internal tests, the question papers were set by the board.
Schools had the liberty to choose the questions from the question bank sent by us. Students also took the test in schools and answer scripts were then evaluated by their teachers. Schools were required to send answer scripts and marks awarded to CBSE. In the city, most schoolchildren opted to take the internal tests. Some, however, chose otherwise. More and more children across the country had preferred to take the examination conducted by schools though they had both options, Joshi informed. At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, 264 students had opted for internal examination. Arubarna Dasgupta, a student from the school, said, I believe that the school examination will give me a better understanding of my preparations since the answer scripts are evaluated by teachers. There is less possibility of any error."She has scored CGPA 10. Arusha Dasgupta of Mahadevi Birla Girls Higher Secondary School has scored CGPA 9. She added; there is no pressure in schools. We were prepared thoroughly. Hence, the atmosphere was relaxed. Why should one opt for board examinations if not just because of marks her friend Insha Ahmed, however, had appeared in the board conducted examination. I want to shift to another board. It is the only reason I chose the CBSE-conducted exam, she said. Her CGPA is 8. Her school principal Malini Bhagat said, I do not think that children will have any difficulty in taking the board examinations in Class XII. Rather, schools offer a better evaluation. In schools, children appear for an 80-mark written test while 20 marks are based on evaluation throughout the year. In Mahadevi Birla, 37 students among 272 have scored CGPA 10. The CBSE chairman said, the system has been put in place to release students from undue pressure. Most children who have taken the examination conducted by CBSE are either switching to other boards or are planning to shift to other schools." In Apeejay Schools Salt Lake campus, 12 students scored CGPA 10 while 9 scored the same on its Park Street campus. At Delhi Public School Ruby Park, 310 students appeared in the Class-X examinations. Among them, 73 students took the board exam. Altogether, 96 students scored CGPA 10. All students have qualified for promotion to Class XI, informed school authority.
