From the next academic year, HSC students will not be allotted the extra 25 marks that were being allotted to those pursuing sports. Instead, these marks will be given to 'sports quota' students only if they need grace marks - a maximum of 25 - to pass in any subject. For the past few years, the sports marks were being given to all students in the 'sports' category, something which helped many notch 100 per cent marks.
"This year, students who sport players at the district, state or international-levels were given the extra 25 marks. However, we have got a circular from the state board that these 25 marks can be granted to students only if they fail the examination. This rule will come into effect from next year, "said Ravindra Bhise, secretary of the State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
