The cut-off marks in the first merit list of B.Com, declared by Gujarat University on Tuesday, 26th June, 2012 witnessed a slump of about 6 per cent in top colleges compared to the last year. The reason, say college authority, for the drop in cut-off marks is this years class 12 results. The cut-off marks for English medium was at 78 percent which is 4 percent less than the last year. However, the merit list for Gujarati medium has gone up by 6 percent, said H L College Principal Mona Kelsikhar.
The cut-off mark was 60 percent for English medium at colleges which are not in the top-10 list. Dean of Commerce faculty at Gujarat University, N.D. Shah, said, This years cut-of marks shows a decline of 3-4 percent compared to the last year. The second and third merit list may also see a slump. When contacted, H.K. College Principal Gopal Bhatt said, the cut-off marks in the first merit was 71% for English medium. The cut-off marks for students who changed from Gujarati to English medium were 78.57 percent.
The students who have found place in the first merit can pay fee on 27th to 28th June. The second merit list will be declared on 29th June and students can pay the fee on 30th June and 1st July. Like the previous years trend, a sizeable number of Gujarati medium students have opted for English medium this year. The third merit list will be declared on 2nd July and the fee can be paid on the same day. Like every year, colleges noticed the craze of students to convert from Gujarati medium to English medium.
