Hans Raj College was left with vacancies in its B.Com (H) course after 32 selected applicants pulled out on Wednesday, 4th July. Many of them have opted for seats at Lady Shri Ram College in the third round of admissions. If the vacant seats are not filled up on Thursday, 5th July, 2012 Hans Raj College may have to announce a fourth cutoff list. However, chances of a fourth set of cutoffs for popular courses remain dim. Only eight of 55 colleges, including Ramjas and Sri Venkateswara, are expected to announce further cutoffs for B.Com (H). BA programme, though, might remain open in a dozen colleges.
At Sri Venkateswara, seats are likely to remain open in B.Com (H), B.Com and B.A (H) economics, but the drop in cutoff will be marginal to avoid over-admission. We are trying to avoid over-admitting since it affects the teaching quality. We have depreciated our cutoffs very slowly, said a senior teacher at the college. Officials at Ramjas said they might continue admissions to B.Com (H). There are still some vacant seats in the course. The number of admissions on Thursday, 5th July, 2012 will ultimately decide. On the issue of OBC admissions, DU clarified that, Once a cutoff is announced for OBC candidates, all candidates above the cutoff have to be admitted by the college.
B.A (H) seats in English and history are likely to remain in only a few colleges. Sri Venkateswara officials said B.A (H) sociology is likely to remain open in the fourth list. Kirori Mal College has four seats remaining in B.A (H) English. We will be able to confirm on the basis of withdrawals on Thursday, 5th July, 2012, said KMC principal Bhim Sen Singh. College sources said chemistry, mathematics, economics and B.A programme, too, are likely to remain open.
