Nervous times for some students at Gujarat University just do not seem to end. The university is yet to declare results of first year students in various courses. The exams for all these students were conducted in April. No less than 48,000 students are still waiting for their results and admission to the second year. Worst-hit are students of commerce. Also among this group of hapless students are some final-year students of BCA who have got their results, but not their marksheets.
According to GU authorities, the delay in the results is the fault of 14 commerce colleges which have not sent internal exam marks to the university. A GU student said: We are still waiting for the first year exams marks. The second year has already begun in June but we cannot take admission. This is causing a lot of stress and a huge backlog in academics. The new academic year began on June 15. Several colleges failed to send their B.Com, M.Com and M.Sc internal marks.
This has caused results to be withheld for 4,000 candidates which include final year students too. Mukul Shah, acting VC of GU said: We have asked 14 colleges to submit their results at the earliest. We hope to get the results from them by Wednesday, 25th July. If they fail to comply, punitive action will be initiated against the college administrations. The predicament of final year students is the worst possible. Most of us had to wait till July to get our results.
By that time universities in other states had already started the admission process, said a student. That is not the end of their woes. For final-year BCA students, the results have been declared but the marksheets have not yet been handed over. We are still waiting for the marksheets. Without this we cannot apply for admissions to MCA courses. I have plans to continue my studies in Australia but all my plans are stuck, said Dhruv Nayak a student of GU.
