Malda Medical College, which began its journey in 2011, received a severe blow with the Medical Council of India (MCI) denying the renewal of permission for admission to second batch of MBBS in the current academic year. An MCI team had visited the college on March 1 and 2 to assess the infrastructure. It was not satisfied with the infrastructure and in a letter on May 26, the MCI informed the principal about their decision. The letter (MCI -34 (41) / 2012), written by P Prasannaraj on behalf of the MCI (UG section), said that the councils assessors report on their visit to Malda Medical College was considered by the board of governors at their meeting held on May 21 and some drawbacks were observed.
The anatomy section is in the worst shape. There is no exhaust, light, water supply and drainage facility in the section. Dissection hall capacity is inadequate and it has no preparation room and other facilities. The team also observed that there were no ICCU, ICU, SICU beds in the medical college.
