Shilpa M Paul of Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district topped the medical entrance exam. She was the lone girl student among the top 10. Shilpa, who scored 944.7528 out of 960, was closely followed by Vishnu Prasad P (944.8232) and Azad T (935.6677). Ebin K Sebastian (934.8936) and Mohammed Faizal Hassan (934.8232) completed the top fourth and fifth positions. Six candidates among the top 10 studied the state syllabus in Plus-Two, while the remaining followed the CBSE syllabus. "Only one candidate in the top 10 has cleared the exam in the first chance," entrance commissioner B.S. Mavoji said. As many as 77, 974 students took the medical entrance exam and 71, 135 qualified.
Among the first 100 ranks, the distribution of boys and girls was almost even: 53 boys and 47 girls. In the engineering stream, 77,510 students, out of 1, 06, 071, qualified. The final engineering rank list would be released only after the announcement of results of 30 various boards in and outside the country. The entrance commissioner said 12,000 more students have qualified this time than the previous year. "The increased academic interest, along with proper knowledge about negative marks, could be the reason," Mavoji explained. Once the rank list is published, the trial allotment will be made. The option registration for the students would begin from June 14 while the first allotment is expected to be made on July 3, he said.
