The high court on Friday, 4th May, 2012, stayed the Medical Council of Indias notification prescribing conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for medical undergraduate and postgraduate seats in all government and private unaided medical colleges. Justice K Bhakthavatsala passed the order after hearing a plea filed by Karnataka Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association. They challenged the February 15, 2012 notification. The move to conduct a single NEET is impracticable.
CET at the state level takes at least two months before students attend classes, petitioner said. They claimed the association may enter into an agreement with the government for 2012-13 and NEET will affect it. On November 21, 2011, the HC stayed a similar notification based on December 27, 2010 notification issued by the Centre. The petitioner association along with Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minorities Professional Colleges Association challenged the notification. That plea is pending.
Proceedings against registrar stayed:
The high court judge stayed proceedings against J. V. Yashodhara, district registrar, Bangalore Rural district, in a case registered before the special Lokayukta court. The petitioner claimed he was not the sub registrar who had registered the joint development agreement between SJR Enterprises and owners in about 10 acres at Arakere village.
Breather for Central Relief Centre staff:
Vacation judge Justice Anand Byrareddy stayed further proceedings against four staff members of Central Relief Centre, Magadi Road, in relation to a series of beggar’s deaths two years ago. Hanumantharayappa (warden), Lakshminarasimhaiah (superintendent), S Krishne Gowda (secretary) and Bhagyalakshmi (staffer) filed petitions alleging harassment from authorities.
