How to crack the board’s exam
323 views

The clock has started ticking and students have begun with their final preparation for the Boards. Here are a few queries that students asked counsellors at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regarding their basic preparation for different subjects. Sometimes, the extent of topics covered in NCERT books is not as vast as the way they are covered in other books. For instance, a subject like business studies, NCERT becomes insufficient. Is it absolutely mandatory to stick to NCERT books? Is the marking scheme given to examiners based on NCERT? The CBSE recommends only NCERT textbooks. The marking scheme developed by the CBSE for Boards provides model answers, which examiners expect out of the students. Marks are then assigned accordingly to various parts of the question as per the marking scheme in order to facilitate the objective evaluation of the answers of the student.

How to crack the board exam

Question: How beneficial is it to solve the 10-year papers and the past years' CBSE exam papers?
Answer: CBSE question papers of past years provide a wide range of questions that test various levels of learning of a student. This is extremely beneficial for students in the long run because the question papers make for an extensive practice material. However, you must ensure that the questions in the 10-year papers are based on the syllabus and the guidelines prescribed by the CBSE.

Question: I am a student of class 12. My English language skills are not very sharp. How should I prepare for the language section of the exam so that I don't lose marks for incorrect grammar and sentence structuring?
Answer: The grammar and language section is an important part of the examination scheme of the English paper. The paper tests a student's language skills in a manner that encourages him/ her to use grammar correctly and structure sentences accordingly. The student must practice from the workbooks prescribed by the CBSE to hone up their grammar skills.

Question: Some of the questions provided in the CBSE sample papers are vastly different from those given in other sample papers. Is it sufficient to just practice the CBSE sample papers or should one also cover the others such as U-Like and Together series?
Answer: The CBSE sample question papers based on the prescribed question paper design and the blueprint provide a platform for preparation of many similar question papers. There are several other model practice papers which are available that are styled as per the CBSE question papers. You can ask your teachers to help you with sifting through such papers.

Question: I am a commerce student of Class 12. Having gone through the last few years' CBSE Board exam papers, I have seen that there are some topics that are asked repeatedly across most of the papers. Since there is less than a month left, is it sufficient to go through those topics?
Answer: CBSE question papers developed for the Boards are strictly based on the syllabus. The question papers of the past few years are designed as per the prescribed structure of the Board. You are advised not to do selective studies and refer to your teacher for guidance and support to adequately cover the topics prescribed by the CBSE.
