Direct Admission of Students Abroad

Nervous freshers, who joined the National Institute of Technology-Trichy and were planning to tip-toe the corridors to avoid aggressive seniors were in for a pleasant surprise. During an orientation program for new entrants, NIT director Srinivasan Sundarrajan broke the news, congratulating a second-year chemical engineering student Nancy Bhatt, who hit upon the novel idea of starting a Facebook group to welcome the newcomers’.

Direct Admission of Students Abroad

The idea is to take away the fear, if any, from the new students, who come here from far and wide, from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Among them are also students under DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) programme, Nancy told TOI. She toyed with the idea of launching the group in the first year.

But I gave up the idea as it might have been misconstrued by seniors as a form of revolt, said Nancy. Nicknamed Seniors >3 Juniors (meaning seniors love juniors), the group was started a couple of weeks ago with 70 students. The number swelled to 300 within just two days. Today it is a 700-strong group. The idea is to put our juniors at ease and embrace them into our fold, Nancy said.
