The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is set to introduce bar coding on answersheets used in ICSE board examinations from the next session to maintain anonymity of the students.
At present, students mention both their names and roll numbers on the sheets. Gerry Arathoon, additional secretary, who is presently the officiating chief executive and secretary of ICSE, was in Chandigarh on Tuesday for the third annual conference of the association of schools for Indian school certificate (ASISC), which elected office-bearers of the newly-constituted north zone.
To bring down the burden of students following Supreme Court's ruling to make environmental science a compulsory subject, the ICSE has decided to split the curriculum into parts so that students can read different sections along with other subjects. "This way, the entire environmental science syllabus is being covered but there is no additional subject," he said. Asked about the Union minister Kapil Sibal's suggestion to allow students to evaluate their own answersheets, Arathoon said: "We maintain secrecy of the examiners and such a proposal won't prove fruitful. Though, we are yet to officially hear of the proposal." To remove the misconception that ICSE does not prepare its students for entrance exams, Council for Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) has prepared co-curriculum under which all ASISC school boards of north region will have common syllabus for science, mathematics and commerce. Principals of 150 ICSE affiliated schools from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir were present on the occasion. Principal Stanly has been elected the president and J. Jacob is the vice-president of the north zone.
