A Rajasthan chemistry teacher has made representations to IIT-JEE authorities pointing out error in the answer key of chemistry paper, but till date she has not received any reply. The state board is not the one always committing errors in question papers. Such prestigious institutes like IITs could also go wrong at times. A week before the result of IIT-JEE exam was announced, Vijay Pratima Mittal, a chemistry teacher running a private coaching centre in Rajasthan, had made representations with regards to error in the answer key of chemistry paper.
It has been more than 15 days but she has not received any reply. Dr. Mittal wrote to the special secretary, technical education in the Ministry of HRD and the organising chairman of IIT-JEE drawing their attention to the error in the answer key. Dr. Mittal claims, the answer key of JEE 2012 was published on May 7 on the website of IITs. I observed a mistake in the answer of question 28 in paper 2, section II (chemistry). Option (A) has been shown as the correct answer which is wrong. The correct answer is option (B).
5.25 LAKH Students Affected:
Arguing that it affected 5.25 lakh students who took IIT-JEE, she said the answer keys should be corrected. Question 28 is of four marks and due to wrong answer the merit of the students will be greatly affected. It is very much possible that the students who appeared in JEE-2012 are not taking any action about this mistake because they believe that IIT-JEE authorities are highly qualified and they cannot make any mistake. They also feel that the answers given by the IIT-JEE must be 100 per cent correct, but the authorities had already accepted their mistake in question number 23 of this section and they agreed to give bonus marks to all students. An Ahmedabad-based chemistry teacher Aalap Shah, too, is convinced with the correct answer being option B. He said, In the question, the necessary condition for hydrolysis of cyanide group into the acid is not given, therefore, the nearest answer should be B instead of A.
