When the entire country is chanting Gandhian mantras and fighting for a corruption-free society, closer home, Bangalore University on Monday decided to annul exams after students were found copying.
Students were caught copying in examination centres for correspondence and distance education, second and third-year B.A, B.Com and BBM courses. The director of correspondence courses and distance education found students writing the exam with textbooks open before them when he went on rounds following complaints. In Davanagere, in a gap of four minutes, I caught eight students copying. In Vijaynagar, Bangalore, somebody was standing on the top of the building to caution the others. Then on the students pretended to write and just kept looking at each other, said Niranjan B R, director. The department had received complaints from students about mass copying. The exams that started on August 16 is being conducted at 27 centres for 10,000 students. Copying was reported at Vijayanagar Independent PU College, Diksuchi Education Trust, Davanagere (reported by observers), Government First Grade College, Koppal, and Bellary Engineering College on all days of the exam.
