Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will admit 385 students to its flagship programme this year. Engineers, like always, dominate the batch with 96 per cent of the 385 students. While 2.5 per cent of the students are from commerce and the rest are from different areas. Out of the total number of students who have made it to IIM-A this year, 72 per cent have work experience while the average work experience of the students is 22.5 months.
As many as 25 per cent of the students have more than two years of work experience and 11.5 per cent have above three years. Professor Arnab Laha, Admissions Chair, said, About 8 per cent of the candidates does not accept the offer. Hence, we keep a margin while making offers. DAIICT student Siddharth Goel, who walked an extra mile, is thankful to the test series that he took in Delhi. Goals parents are doctors and belong to a village in Chhattisgarh. He said, I specially took my test series before CAT in Delhi as there is stiff competition among the candidates. However, as far as the interviews are concerned, mostly I was asked questions related to logic. A Bachelor of Commerce student, Aakash Shroff converted IIM-A call. Having two years of work experience, Aakash said, The questions asked in the interview did not amuse me as I was already trained at my coaching institute. They were merely related to my academics and work. Aakash lost his mother in 2010. Another student who hails from Bihar and currently stays in Anand, Tanmay Rakshit, too, converted IIMAs call. Tanmay who had applied for the agri-business management course, said, They asked me in detail about farming as my father is a farmer. As I know the process in detail, I was able to face the interview well. Interestingly, Swapnil Gandhi, who hails from Nadiad, was asked a question on politics in Gujarat. Gandhi, who is a computer engineer, presently works with IBM India Ltd in Pune. He said, The questions were quite expected. But I was asked about Maharashtra and Gujarat politics that took me some time to make them understand.
