City-headquartered Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) has launched Indias first-of-its kind certification in high performance computing (HPC). The initiative aims to meet the demand for skilled professionals in HPC in the country, which is rising by 25 per cent each year since 2009.
The certification will be called the CDAC Certified HPC Professional Certification Programme (CCHPCP) and the exam will be conducted online every quarterly, on the lines of software programming certifications. There won’t be any eligibility requirements to appear for the certification, and the paper will contain objective questions. The aim of the certification is to offer a standardised scale to map the HPC skill sets of both current and aspiring professionals in this area, and enable them to pursue careers in the field. This will also help the government, research and development bodies, and the information technology industry to recruit the right candidates from a pool, Hemant Darbari, executive director, C-DAC, said. The examination will be based on the candidates knowledge of C, C++, Fortran, uniprocessor optimisation of serial codes, parallel computing architectures and challenges, OS concepts, cluster building and system administration, debugging of codes, among other things. The syllabus for the programme has been uploaded onto the C-DAC website www.cdac.in. The first certification exam will be conducted in the first week of January next year. Candidates can take the exam at the 63 C-DAC authorised training centres located across the country, which will act as the prometric centres for the certification. We are also planning to launch a course for this certification, which will be conducted over six months in all the 63 centres. The course will be designed and launched in the next three months, said Goldi Misra, group coordinator and head, HPC group, C-DAC.
