The first batch of Bachelors of Planning at Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University displayed their first semester work at an exhibition held on campus on Friday 9th Dec. 2011.
As part of their academic requirements, as many as 60 students visited a village called Vasna Chacharavadi on the outskirts of Ahmedabad to understand its rural set-up and functioning. They studied village mapping and cluster mapping and learnt to develop technical documentation. This exercise helped us to understand the perspective required to prepare technical documentation. We studied the rural set-up in terms of its planning and functionality. The duration was an eye-opener for students who want a career in planning, said Aditi Solanki, one of the students from the batch. The students prepared models and plans to represent their works done during the first semester. They were exposed to basic concepts of planning. As part of the course, they also studied streets of Ahmedabad to identify scope of public space, said Associate Professor Sejal Patel, who is also the head of UG programmes, Faculty of Planning and Public Policy.
