They may add up to just 5-23% of the student strength at B-schools in the country, but girls have been pipping their male peers in grabbing the best pay package at campus placements. Take the case of the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in the city. Girls, who comprise 30% of the 240-student batch, picked up the top three (NMIMS) job offers in 2010 and 2011.
This year, two girls have been offered the highest salary of Rs 30 lakh per annum at the campus placement. It’s the same success story at the Sydenham Institute of Management in the city, two girls among the top five performers there are the envy of their peers. Of 28 girls in a batch of 120, Akanksha Bhalla, 23 years, a student of MBA (finance), has bagged the second highest offer, a package of Rs 12.5 lakh per annum. The highest package offers just Rs 25,000 more. The Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, the city’s ace B-school, has 23% of girls in its postgraduate programme. Student Resha Haria, 24 years, is among the five who made up the cream of the crop at the placements this year.
