The last edition of Maharashtra’s common entrance test (CET) for admissions to management courses in the state was held on Sunday 12th March, and the final act was apparently tough. Till this year, CET scores will be considered for admissions to 42,165 seats of MBA and 12,050 seats of PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) in institutes in the state. But from the next session, CET, conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, will make way for CMAT, scores of which will be considered for admissions to all the programmes.
Director of technical education S. K. Mahajan confirmed that the exam went off well at all centres. No discrepancies have been reported. From next year, CMAT will be considered for admissions to management programmes, Mahajan added. On Sunday, of the 85,000 candidates registered, 97.40% turned up for the exam, with around 9,000 candidates taking the test from centres outside the state. As the exam ended, the general verdict from the students was that the paper was difficult. It was tougher than previous year, said Tejas Sawant, an engineering student from VJTI. Priyamvada Maddalkar, another student found it lengthy and tough and so, could not attempt all the questions. There were more numbers of puzzles in the logical reasoning and visual reasoning section than last time, she added. Explaining the seat division, Mahajan said, Sixty-five per cent of the seats will be given out on the basis of CET scores and 20% is reserved for the management quota. This year, CMAT scores will be considered along with other national entrance test marks for the remaining 15% seats and also for those vacant in the two other quotas.
