Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) on 9th March, Friday hosted a lecture on 'Innovation and Collaboration in a Knowledge Economy' by Dr. Prof E Gordon Gee, president, Ohio State University.
Dr. Gee spoke on the importance of the university's growing partnerships in India, the critical need for bold collaborations across higher education, and the role of academics as an economic driver. He said in the “21st century, universities, businesses, and governments alike must cast off 'Jurassic' thinking, seek calculated risks and reach out aggressively to one another in partnership”. He added that business and education depends on the very same critical factors like greater institutional agility, willingness to re-imagine and re-make the institutions, investment in intellectual capital, and formation of wholly new kinds of partnerships. He said the education institutions need to become more nimble and responsive, and less bureaucratic. He expressed that universities today are in the need of focusing on the value education more than focusing on meaty salary packages programmes.
