In order to update the faculty at engineering colleges on latest technology used in automobile industry, the Shantanu Kirloskar Chairperson of the University of Pune (UoP) has undertaken an initiative to organise visits of faculty members to Auto Cluster Development and Research Institute (ACDRI) in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The first delegation of members headed by D. K. Abhyankar, Chair Professor, Shantanu Kirlosakar chair, UoP and Anil Sahasrabuddhe, Director, College of Engineering Pune along with 13 professors from various colleges visited ACDRI recently. Abhyankar said that their aim is to interface and strengthen the relations between industry and academia. Under this initiative, the faculty members of engineering colleges will pay visit to the auto cluster every three months. "Plans are underway to involve colleges affiliated to the UoP and offer research platform to students by initiating tie-up with centres like the auto cluster," he said. Talking about the infrastructure available at CoEP, Sahasrabuddhe said, "There are many types of machinery that have become obsolete and if students use latest machineries and technologies available at the auto cluster, it will benefit them immensely in future. The faculty as well as students can update their knowledge by this useful initiative." Managing director of ACDRI, Amar Desai, who guided the faculty visit said, "We will extend full support to students for their academic projects or internships through ACDRI where various research and development projects of auto giants are presently taking place." The delegation visited rubber and polymer lab, electronic lab, environmental testing lab, calibration and validation centre and various other labs at the auto cluster. They also visited the design centre with CAD/CAM/CAE prototyping facilities with rapid prototype machines and tool room. The delegation also discussed the possibility of running classes on CAD & CAM for students at the auto cluster.
