In 2005, Uday Kumar enrolled at Visvesvaraya College of Engineering for a two-year Masters in civil engineering on the assumption that he will receive the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scholarship from Bangalore University.
Kumar even cleared the eligibility examination conducted by All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Four years later, he graduated by winning a gold medal. But the university is yet to give his scholarship. I completed all subjects and topped my class; I approached the registrars office but till date, nothing has happened, said a distraught Kumar. The structure of the scholarship was such that Kumar was to receive Rs 32,500 for each of the four semesters, Rs 1.3 lakh in total. But I just got one instalment, he said. Kumar is not alone. There are 15 to 20 students in the 2005-07 batch waiting for scholarship money even after completing the course. We went to the administrators office, wrote a letter, made calls to find about the status of our scholarships but nothing happened, said a frustrated Chandramohana Reddy, another student. All that university officials are telling students is: We haven't received your details yet or were awaiting funds from Delhi.
Yet to get the Money
The university has released Rs 35 lakh but we haven't yet received the cheque. I will give students their money once I receive it.
