In Kolkata A day after chaos and violence prevailed at Salt Lake Stadium due to mismanagement by the Central Selection Committee of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board while conducting JEE Counseling for engineering seats, a huge police force was posted on the second day of Counseling to ensure that no untoward incident occurred.
Counseling of about 9,160 Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates has to be conducted but only 4,000 of them could attend the session on Monday. Conseling for the rest was conducted on Tuesday July 12. Counseling for general category students for the AICTE tuition fee waiver scheme could not be held on Monday and will now be held between July 19 and July 21. The pre-declared schedule of counseling that was supposed to start from July 19 for general category candidates has been deferred by three days and will now end on August 5. Trouble occurred on Monday July 11 when a huge number of candidates from all categories arrived for counseling and waited in queues all day long. Many of the candidates became restless and went on a rampage. The police arrived a little late and a scuffle broke out soon after. Candidates who had to return on Monday felt irritated and disappointed with the management. I had come around 8.00 am and waited throughout the day but my turn never came. I was standing first in the queue. I had come at 11.00 am but the queue did not move at all throughout the day. We had to face tremendous inconvenience, said Biswajit Malakar, who came all the way from Jalpaiguri after ranking 4,029. To ensure that Monday's incident didn't recur, a large police force was posted at the stadium on Tuesday July 12. Many of the candidates who had come from other districts and far off places were accommodated in guest houses, police said.
