Third Cutoff Doubtful in Most DU Colleges
210 views

If the second cutoff brought hope with most colleges continuing admission in most of the courses, the third cutoff may come as a disappointment. Many colleges are likely to close several courses after the second list.
Colleges like Ramjas, Gargi, College of Vocational Studies, Atma Ram Santan Dharm and Maharaja Agrasen are not likely to come up with another list while Kirori Mal is going to close 10 of its 16 courses that were on offer during the second cutoff admissions.

The principal of Gargi College, Meera Ramachandran, said: We are not likely to have any third list. Two more days are left for admissions under the second list and if the current trend of cancellations continues, there is definitely no third list.
Hindu College, which closed eight of its 17 courses in the second list, has seen over admissions in many of the courses despite the high cutoff. Principal Vinay Kumar Srivastava said: Right now, we can't say how many courses will remain open in the third list or whether we will have another list at all. There are two more days. In the last two days of the first-list admissions, we took 450 students. So we can take a call on Friday or Saturday.

Coupled with comparatively lesser number of cancellation, many colleges have already exhausted the intake capacity.
Reeling under over-admissions, SGTB Khalsa is now waiting for the cancellations to have a class of the right strength. Barring B.Sc electronics and Punjabi (H), all others are likely to be closed in the third list. We have admitted 30% more than the capacity in courses like B.Com (H), Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and B.Sc life sciences, said principal Jaswinder Singh.

Some other colleges are also facing the same situation. Dyal Singh had more than 150 cancellations so far while Hindu had 22 cancellations. Daulat Ram, too, had 38 cancellations till Thursday 23rd June.
Miranda House is unlikely to come out with a third cutoff list. Even if we do, it will be just for a couple of courses like Sanskrit or BA, said a college official.

The admission spree continues even on the second day of the second cutoff with LSR admitting over 170 aspirants in these two days. LSR, which remained open for most of the courses in the second list, is likely to come up with a third list only for English, mathematics, psychology and political science.
We don't want over-admissions and that is the reason we are going slow. We may see a marginal dip of 0.25% in psychology and political science, said admission co-ordinator Ujjaini Ray.
