Seats are still available in all colleges for the non-creamy layer candidates of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. As per the second cutoff list declared by Delhi University on Tuesday, all the popular courses are open for admission to OBC aspirants across colleges.
Even though colleges such as Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Daulat Ram (DR), Hindu, Ramjas and Shaheed Bhagat Singh have closed their admissions for B.Com (H) and economics (H) in the general category, the courses are open for OBC candidates. While DR has decreased the B.Com (H) cutoff by as much as 3 per cent, it has dropped the economics cutoff to 83.5 per cent in the second list from 90 per cent in the first. Ramjas and Shaheed Bhagat Singh too dropped the cutoffs for both the courses by 1 per cent.
In all, B.Com (H) seats for OBC candidates are available in 54 colleges, while economics (H) seats are open in 30 colleges, including the likes of Lady Shri Ram, Hindu, IP, Kamala Nehru, Kirori Mal, Hans Raj and Sri Venkateswara, among others.
Many off-campus colleges where B.Com (H) and economics (H) are also open for general candidates, have given full 10 per cent relaxation to OBC candidates. Colleges such as Acharya Narendra Dev, Bharti, Lakshmi Bai, Maharaja Agrasen, Ramanujan and Satyawati co-ed are giving full 10 per cent relaxation in B.Com (H) to OBC aspirants.
In humanities, too, 42 colleges are going to continue their admissions for English (H), including colleges such as DR, Hans Raj, Gargi, LSR, Miranda House and Kirori Mal, among others. History (H) too is open in 37 colleges with many offering 10 per cent relaxation.
According to principals of various colleges, because of the low turnout of OBC candidates at the first cutoff stage, the colleges have decided to give the maximum possible relaxation to OBC candidates. Last year, as many as 20 colleges had failed to fill up 50 per cent of their seats reserved for OBC aspirants.
In the science courses, too, honours courses such as Physics and Chemistry are open in 17 colleges, while Mathematics (H) is open in 25 colleges. Other science courses, such as Botany, Zoology, B.Sc Electronics, Computer Science, Physical Science and Life Sciences are also open with full 10 per cent relaxation across colleges.
In all, 27 per cent seats are reserved for OBC aspirants. In absolute numbers that translates to 14, 500 seats across colleges.
