A few colleges had sent queries to Singh regarding the OBC cut-offs, to which the VC made it clear that colleges should not relax the differential merit between OBC and general candidates by more than 10% to ensure that all the seats are filled up. Singh asked colleges to make an extra effort to make the admission process easier on everyone. Last year as many as 20 DU colleges failed to fill 50% of their OBC seats.

The VC and his team also shared details of how the semester system should be implemented. The pro-vice chancellor, Vivek Suneja made a presentation, with the psychology course as an example, to inform colleges about various criteria such as time tables, the number of tutorials, and so on.

The VC also apprised the principals about new initiatives they were supporting such as sending meritorious DU students abroad on study tours in the new session. DU has decided to send three batches of 25 students each for study tours to Australia, China and a three-city tour to Colombo, Dhaka and Kathmandu this October. After the students resume classes in July, DU will conduct a selection process to decide which students get to study abroad. It is assumed that these students will be in need of financial assistance. DU is already in talks with the Australia-India Institute in Melbourne to host the first batch of students from DU.

According to Meera Ramachandran, principal, Gargi College, who was present at the meeting. The meeting was called primarily to address the various queries the colleges had. Quite a few clarifications were sought by college principals on various issues related to admissions. The VC handed over the CDs of the class XII results along with an analysis to help colleges prepare the cut-offs. As there is no preadmission form this year, the CDs will help us to prepare the cut-offs. Then there was a query on the OBC reservation with respect to individual colleges’ additional criteria, to which the VC said that we have to abide by the rules laid down by the government.

Moreover, since the syllabi of various courses were prepared by different departments at a different time, the university administration apprised up of the semester structure and implementation module, added Ramachandran.
