The Common Admission Test (CAT) aspirants in city heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday evening after, the CAT Convenor, 2011, Prof Janakiraman Moorthy announced that they could re-select their test centres within the city.
Earlier, aspirants were forced to opt for nearby centers outside Gujarat like Jaipur and Mumbai to give the CAT after all the slots in Gujarat across all dates of CAT were declared full. Archana Tulsani, a CAT aspirant who experienced some anxious moments due to non-availability of seats said, When I logged on the CAT website to choose my test centre, I received a message asking me to choose some other location as all the seats in the city were full for all days of the test. As I didn’t want miss my chance of appearing for the test, I selected Mumbai as my centre. I also contacted my coaching institute and reported about the problem. Tulsani later on Thursday evening changed her centre back to Ahmedabad. Nikunj Prajapati, another aspirant ended up selecting Jaipur as the city of test centre. He said, I logged on at 11.00 am and there was no seat available in Ahmedabad centre. Hence, I had to select Jaipur as a centre. While speaking to Mirror, Moorthy said, there was some confusion in the morning after CAT aspirants panicked at the non-availability of seats. But now things are back to normal now. Applicants can now reselect their location. We are ready and equipped to accommodate all the aspirants from Ahmedabad. However, some of the coaching centres are not very confident about the arrangements made for CAT 2011. Parasharan Chari, COO, Endeavor Management coaching centre said, Engineering students who also are giving their CAT exams faced some harrowing moments as their University exams are slotted from November 11. Choosing a centre outside Gujarat would have led them to miss their university examination. We have no idea what arrangements have been made at the test centre, how many computers will be made available etc. CAT test venues in Gujarat were reduced from three sites last year to just one this year. This, despite the fact that last year around 7500 candidates took their CAT exams in the three centres located in engineering colleges in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
