The AICTE had issued a notification to B-schools listing a new set of rules for their admission process

The Supreme Court extended its interim order of allowing Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) institutes to accept different exam scores as well as to conduct their own group discussion and personal interview processes. However, aspiring MBA candidates are disappointed that they will have to apply to all institutes separately for admission.

The Supreme Court on July 26 extended its stay against the All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) notification regarding PGDM institutions for another year.

On December 28, 2010, the AICTE had issued a notification to B-schools listing a new set of rules for their admission process. According to the notification, the admission process and fee structure for the PGDM programme shall be managed by the respective state government. Different groups of B-schools had challenged the AICTE order.

Dr Apoorva Palkar, President, Consortium of Management Education (COME) said, "Following the SC ruling, we can now prepare the ground for a smoother and well-structured admissions process for the 2012-13 batch. This extension is a big relief as we can continue to use any of the nationally recognised entrance tests like CAT, XAT, MAT, ATMA and so on for the admissions."

However aspiring MBA students are disappointed. Pushkar R, who wishes to join a PGDM course next year expressed, "We will have to appear for a lot of tests and prepare individually for different institutes. We will also have to apply to each institute separately, which will add to the cost. The AICTE decision could have lessened our troubles."
