Sound Recording Course, Eligibility Details
Sound recording dates back to 19th century when a lot of inventions were taking
place in the field of audio recording. But the breakthrough in sound was achieved
in 1877, when Edison invented phonograph. Phonograph was a practical sound recording
and reproduction machine for recording and reproducing sound. Audio recording is
all about capturing sound, recording, copying, editing, mixing and reproducing sound
using electronic and mechanical devices. Two stages of audio recording are production
and post production. These days, digital audio recording is easy and a creatively
challenging than the manual recording. Digitization includes digital audio workstation,
signal processors and sequencing software. An audio recordist must be well versed
with the software and hardware integration. He should know how to manipulate sound
through mechanical and digital means. He is responsible for giving background scores
in videos, films, advertisement etc. Other branches in audio

Eligibility:
The minimum qualification required for audio recording course
is 10+2. Added knowledge of physics and maths is an advantage. No other specific
educational qualification is required for training in this field. One who has the
background in electrical engineering and fine arts can also pursue a career in sound engineering course. He should be expert in
using various recording equipments such as mixing consoles and microphones, signal
processors, tape machines, digital audio workstations, music sequencers, speakers,
pre-amplifiers, amplifiers.
Career Options:
There are plenty of opportunities for audio recordists in movies, television, advertising
and broadcasting, live concerts, multimedia organizations, CD production etc. But
the real opportunity lies in the music industry. One can start as an assistant to
a recording engineer to set all the equipments and instruments. Gradually on the
basis of experience, he can become a reputed audio engineer. Another option is in
the recording studio and the major tasks performed here are operating microphones,
mixers and software and recording of sounds, music and speech. With experience,
one could specialise in different aspects of sound, music, dialogue, special effects.
One can also become a music producer or start one’s own recording studio.
Besides studios, audio engineers can also work on a freelance basis. Graduate in
audio recording can work as studio engineer, sound recordist, broadcast engineer,
sound editor, re- recording mixer, dialogue editor, music editor, sound effects
editor, location sound engineer, mix engineers, sound designer, pro tools operator,
studio manager, programmer etc.

sound recording becomes more refined and complex, musicians will need to have better
understanding of technology in order to use the tools of their trade. These technologies
