Content to be supported with colorful illustrations
No more boring textbooks now. To make studies more enjoyable
for students studying in std IX to XII, the state board is now planning to design
attractive textbooks for all subjects. While the content of the textbooks will be
changed as per the state curriculum frame work (SCF) which was drafted by the Maharashtra
State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the content will be supported
with colorful illustrations, a list of easy-to-do activities and also next project
ideas for science subjects.
Sources at the state board said that “the textbooks
will be full of life with colorful pages and explanations in the form of illustrations”.
A state board officer, who did not want to be named, said, “The students are bored
with the age-old black and white textbooks. The new textbooks will help students
learn and understand concepts easily”. The state board has also framed a new curriculum
for all the four standards as per the SCF. The textbooks for std IX and XI will
be ready by the 2012-13 academic year, while those for std X and XII will be ready
by the following academic year.
The exercise is modeled on a position paper provided
by the National Council for Educational Research and Training and the guidelines
of the National Curriculum Framework 2005. The state board official further said,
Thrust of the SCF 2010 will be on developing a fresh outlook towards education,
teaching and learning process by suggesting major changes in the way education is
to be imparted in the state. The textbooks will not only be visually attractive,
but std IX textbooks will also use technology as the Board is also readying CDs
that will contain interactive e-learning science experiments in animated form as
well as pronunciations, usage of words among others in case of language subjects.
