Students will not have to fear failing or repeating a full year
With the introduction of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)
this year, students will not have to fear failing or repeating a full year. Instead,
they will now fall under the ATKT system.
According to G. M. Rabari, examination secretary, "If a student fails one or two subjects
in the first semester, he or she does not have to repeat the complete semester.
Instead, the individual will be promoted to the second semester and he/she will
have to be cleared those subjects then. However, in case he/she is unable to pass
these subjects even in the second semester, then the subjects will be 'carried forward'
into the last semester. Then the student will have to clear all subjects, if not
repetition of year comes into the picture. This system is called the ATKT system."
Furthermore, every semester's 25% weightage of marks will be carried forward till
the last semester and the total marks will be an average of marks obtained from
each semester. While the first and third semester exams are objective, the second
and fourth semester exams will be based on descriptive questions.
All these exams are based on multiple choice questions (MCQ) and they will be carried
out on OMR sheets. Students have to ensure that they secure marks which are above
grade 'D'. In subjects of 100 marks, the minimum marks required are 33 whereas in
subjects of 50 marks, minimum marks needed to pass are 17.
Students have been divided into groups, where Group A has mathematics, chemistry,
physics, Group B biology, chemistry and physics and Group AB mathematics, biology,
chemistry and physics. Therefore, if students from Group A or B intend to change
the group they can do so latest by August 31. However, students who are in Group
AB can change their group anytime during the semester.
