Unforeseen rise in demand for the Management Courses
Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has received an overwhelming
number of applications for the MBA Entrance Examination.
This year, the KEA has been told to conduct the entrance examination for MBA, MCA,
M.Tech and ME courses. Till 2010, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) used
to conduct the entrance.
KEA said it has received over 40,000 applications for the MBA course alone this
year, against the 10,000 applications last year. "In total, we received about 50,000
applications and of them, about 40,000 were for the MBA," a KEA official said.
According to the VTU, every year about 25,000 candidates apply for MBA and 15,000
for M. Tech. "The demand is huge for MBA, while there are only 8,000 seats available,"
a VTU official said.
The examination is scheduled to be held on August 6 and 7. However, the KEA is yet
to decide about the number of test centres. The counseling for admission to these
courses will be held at the Bangalore centre.
Meanwhile, universities will conduct separate entrance tests for admission to MBA
courses in their constituent colleges.
