Class 10 students from International General Certificate of Secondary Education
(IGCSE) schools to apply to city junior colleges
To make it easier for Class 10 students from International
General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) schools to apply to city junior
colleges, IGCSE schools across the city have requested the international board to
give students the option of taking the board exams in March.
The University of Cambridge International Exams (CIE) conducts the IGCSE exams and
students have the option of appearing for the exams in either May or October.
The Members of International Schools Association (MISA) submitted their suggestions
for changes in exam pattern to Andrew Sort well, CIE's regional manager for South
Asia, at a meeting at DG Khetan International School in Malad on Tuesday.
“A March exam option would help students gets their results in time for junior college
admissions. If students give their exams in October, we have to scramble to complete
the syllabus and if they give it in May, they don't get their results on time, “said
Kavita Aggarwal, secretary of MISA, which has 37 member schools. Sort well said
he would forward the suggestion to the CIE.
“The suggestions will be discussed. I will include it in my report, “he said.
MISA has also requested the CIE not to schedule exams during Diwali in October.
At an interactive session with international school representatives on Wednesday,
Sort well took schools through the new courses that the IGCSE has on offer: Global
Perspectives, Enterprise, World Literature and India Studies.
The CIE is also looking to set up a national advisory council and regional
advisory councils for India, comprising educators from across the country to help
work with the board on India's priorities.
