AIIMS exam: Did blog have the questions
Two months after CBI filed a case pertaining to manipulation
and rigging of AIIMS PG entrance exam 2011, another entrance exam conducted by the
institute has come under a cloud.
Eight candidates, who appeared for the written examination for recruitment of ophthalmic
technicians on August 7, have alleged in a complaint that 50 of the total 80 multiple-choice
questions asked in the paper had been lifted from the blog of an ex-lecturer of a
Pune-based private medical college.
The students have alleged that the questions had been leaked to some applicants.
When contacted, the deputy director (administration) said the complaint is being
looked into.
Sources said 110 candidates took the exam, out of which 44 were selected and have
been called for an interview. A total of 8 candidates will finally be appointed.

eye treatment.
The question paper of the written examination has been cut and pasted from the Google
blog, which is a free website. The question paper has been uploaded by an exlecturer
of a Pune-based medical college, alleges the letter submitted to the AIIMS director
on Wednesday. TOI has a copy of the same. On a Google search, the blog address mentioned
in the complaint featured in the search results for multiple choice questions in
optometry.
Prashant Kumar Jaiswal, one of the complainants, alleged several students knew the
questions in advance. The questions were available on the net. I fear that such
students must have scored better than us and they would be selected. AIIMS must
investigate into the paper leak so that other candidates like us who worked hard
for the exam are not victimized, he said.
Another candidate, Ahsan Alam, who has been selected for the interview, claimed
that the candidates got to know about the website only recently and on further inquiry
it was found that the questions had been uploaded on January 4, much before the
exam.
The topper of the 2006-09 batch of the optometry course at AIIMS, Ranjay Kumar Kanoujiya
said he could not clear the entrance. I was surprised by the result, but held myself
responsible for the poor performance. But now it seems that the paper leak cost
me the seat.
Deputy director (administration) AIIMS, Vineet Chaudhary, said: I received the complaint
on Wednesday. It has been forwarded to the examination section for verification.
If the allegations are found to be true, remedial measures will be taken.
Officials in the examination department said that at least 10-15 questions asked
in the written exam were similar to those listed on the website.
On June 2, the CBI registered a case pertaining to manipulation and rigging of AIIMS
PG Entrance Exam 2011, held on May 8, in which six persons including the kingpin
had been arrested.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the group involved in
the said exam had also manipulated various entrance exams conducted by AIIMS since
January 2010.
