Students From The State Bagged-in three Top Ranks
Hyderabad: The results of the All India Engineering Entrance
Examination (AIEEE)-2011, declared here on 5th June 2011, Sunday, came as no surprise for the state.
Much like every year, this time too the top rank holders in the recently announced
IIT-JEE results grabbed the highest ranks in AIEEE, with Andhra Pradesh pocketing
three of the top 10 National slots.

J. Varun, who bagged the 5th rank in the examination, bettering his IIT performance
of 9th rank. Varun was closely followed by West Godavari boy Immadi Prudhvi Tej
(7th), who crowned the national topper of IIT-JEE last month and lapped up the 2nd rank in AIEEE’s
B.Arch Test. The 8th rank holder, T. Bhargava Reddy, too came from Andhra Pradesh
who consistently maintained his IIT rating (he was 8th even there) and did the State
proud. And if the general category was peppered with these toppers, so were the
reserved categories such as Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC)
with Jhadav Shiva Kumar (ST) and Pranay Gorantla (OBC), securing the first position
in B.Arch.
But in spite of the top ranks, these boys confess that their AIEEE run ends just
here. It’s the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) they are headed to now and can
barely contain their excitement regarding the same. "I am surely taking the IIT-Powai
offer. That has been my dream", said an elated Varun little surprised with his AIEEE
performance. "I knew I would get a good rank, especially after the IIT results",
the 17-year-old son of a stenographer from NTPC, Ramagundam said. Varun’s next target
is to see himself as a researcher in the field of Computer Science.
Purdhvi Tej is of course planning to go the IAS way, post his four year stint at
IIT-Mumbai. In the city on Sunday, the young hero was in all smiles, despite slipping
a few notches in the AIEEE test. "There were some additional topics in this test
which are not covered in the IIT Entrance. I had not prepared those parts at all.
So I am actually happy to see my name in the top 10 list", Prudhvi Tej said echoing
the sentiment of his businessman father who too was sure of a ranking between 15
and 20, at best, for his son. His rank has come as a pleasant surprise, said Immadi
Srinivas Rao about his son’s achievement.
And neither Rao is expecting Prudhvi to throw away his IIT seat for an IIIT or NIT
berth, nor are the professors at these institutions. In fact, they agree that none
of the IIT toppers ever opt for AIEEE. This has been the norm for a very long time.
"Only those who fail to get a good ranking in IIT-JEE and manage a decent score
in AIEEE come to our colleges", said G. Radhakrishnamacharya, Dean (Student Affairs
and Academics), NIT, Warangal.
