The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has
approved 107 new colleges across the country out of which there will be 20 new colleges
in Maharashtra. Including 28 colleges approved by the AICTE in the first
phase of approvals, the count now goes to 48 new colleges in the state.
Out of the newly approved colleges, there are 40 engineering colleges, 32 management
institutes and the remaining will offer pharmacy and architectural courses. After
approving 174 new colleges across the country in the first phase, there were total
141 applications received by AICTE for approvals.
"Initially we had received 1062 application out of which 174 were clear approval
cases. After this the managements had a chance to appeal, following which 107 new
colleges have been approved now. However the appealing process is still on and so
there are chances of more new institutes to be approved," informed S. S. Mantha,
chairman, AICTE.
